ARTIST BIOS

 


Katie Hirsch is a Junior majoring in Imaging and Digital Arts (Animation Track) and Computer Science. A varsity athlete, she represents the university as a pole vaulter on the Track & Field Team and in her spare time volunteers as a lab monitor for the school's visual arts department. Other activities include holding drawing and interactivity sessions and acting as treasurer for the Visual Arts Counsel of Majors (ArtCOM), tutoring for the Athletic Department's Excel Program and participating in many Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) activities. Katie ultimately aspires to develop computer and video games that are intellectually stimulating, challenging and fun.

Blake Voshell is a Junior at UMBC, and is majoring in Imaging and Digital Arts, Animation Track, while also gaining a minor in Art History. As an Artist Scholar and an IRC Fellows Member, Blake is always striving to understand new digital art techniques and apply them to cutting edge concepts. His eagerness to constantly learn new programs and share ideas with others has added to his experimentation on independent projects. Upon graduation, Blake is looking to acquire a modeling or animation position in California, to help expand the possibilities that the computer can bring to the Big Screen.

Leigh Rose is currently a junior at UMBC pursuing a BA in Visual Arts with a concentration in Imaging and Digital Arts as well as a minor in Music. Leigh is interested in graphic arts, animation, experimental video, and interactive techniques. As an undergraduate research award scholar for 2001-2002 in the area of visual arts, she recently completed her research and design of an electronic musical instrument that is played with beams of light, called the Luxophone. She was awarded a scholarship for the Imaging Research Center Fellows Program for 2002-2003. Leigh also works part-time as a private piano instructor.

Jay Perry is a senior Visual Arts major, with concentrations in Imaging and Digital Arts and Video-Film, and a minor in Art History. A Linehan Artist Scholar, Jay is interested in combinations of traditional, photographic, and digital media as philosophical or narrative inquiry. He is currently working on a digital video installation for an Undergraduate Research Award considering the state of Baltimore's housing through interconnected spaces and times. Jay is also co-founder and Speaker of ArtCircle, a student-run arts collective at UMBC, and representative for the visual arts on the Faculty and Student Task Forces for the Arts. After graduation, Jay plans to pursue graduate study in media art, alongside his interests in religion, language, and political theory.

Alan Price is Associate Professor of Visual Arts at UMBC. He directs research in the areas of visualization and immersive environment technologies and has directed production of professional projects working with students in the Visual Arts Imaging and Digital Arts programs. His work produced at the center appears on national PBS documentaries, children's educational programming, and state and university events.
Grants and awards received include Best Maryland Filmmaker Award, Washington DC Rosebud recipient, Maryland Area Media Artists Fellowship, and others. Recent exhibitions include the Berlin Animation Festival, Brazil Anima Mundi Festival, and Siggraph animation theaters. Alan is a certified Softimage trainer and has done animation seminars at Brooklyn CUNY and various conferences. He has developed courses at UMBC in animation techniques and has taught courses in traditional animation and film/video production.
